Joseph Smith, the Prophet - Choir

We had our first rehearsal for the choir last night...And we still need about 80 people for the choir.  This is an amazing program about Joseph Smith.  I have had the privilege to particpate in three performances of this work and every time I do I enjoy it even more than the previous time.  The first was about five years ago, shortly after returning home from serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I was "cast" as David Whitmer, one of the three witnesses to the Gold Plates, with the Boise, Idaho LDS Institute of Religion.

The last two productions I was involved with for this production were with Spire Music, Rob Gardner's organization.  They decided to do a "live" recording at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The power of this music as sung by 150 voice choir, full orchestra, talented soloists is beyond description.  The same group had the opportunity to perform JSTP at the Tabernacle on Temple Square.  In attendance were President Thomas S. Monson (President of the LDS Church) and several other church leaders.  We had an even bigger choir for this and the experience was even better than the first time.

While we are not able to have the full orchestra or even a 250 voice choir (the Alpine Tabernacle will only support about 100 people in the choir area), I believe that this performance can be just as powerful (or even more so) as the previous ones I have participated in.

The performance will be held on Sunday, June 27th.  One hundred sixty six years to the day after the deaths of Joseph and Hyrum.
